(solo version)
From Psalm 146

Text:

Look to God. Sing Alleluia.
Look to God, my soul, and praise.
Sing to God, both in this moment
and throughout my range of days.
Soul, don't put your trust in princes.
They can't save; they soon are dust.
When they die, their plans die also.
Should we there invest our trust?

Soul, see God, through eons faithful,
who made heavens, earth, and sea,
planting life and pouring blessing.
Who God is, gives hope to me.
God frees pris'ners; feeds the hungry;
lifts up those who've been bowed down;
cares for widows, migrants, orphans...;
yet, the wicked's ways confounds.

So I look, sing Alleluia.
Look to God, my soul, all days.
To our God of generations—
God who reigns forever— praise.

This is a paraphrase of Psalm 146, which feels especially current.

Psalm 146 comes up in the Revised Common Lectionary, usually in early fall, but also for the Third Sunday of Advent, Year A. However, it also works for personal reflection.

Musical Details:

The beginning melody for this is WERDE MUNTER by Johann Schop (1642).

This is presently arranged as a solo with guitar, although a worship team version may be coming. Even if done as a solo, you are welcome to print the text for bulletins or screens.

Using a capo can adjust the vocal range slightly upwards.
