Let the Children Come to Me

Lyrics:

An eager baby at a chair
hears her daddy call from . . . there.
Still, his voice is like a bridge.
As her eyes connect to his,
she stumbles 'cross a tiny space,
falls, headlong, to his embrace.
Soon, she runs from place to place

...something like the way we grow in grace.

"Let the children come to me.
The Kingdom's giv'n to such as these."
What Jesus says, we can believe,
and come to Him like children to receive.

A boy who's hurt goes straight for Mom
to fix an elbow, knee, or thumb.
Like that, a woman, ill inside,
bears through a crowd to get near Christ.
All she'll do is touch his clothes....
Touch. Cured! But then, he knows!
"Peace," he tells her. "Faith has made you whole."

"Let all children come to me.
The Kingdom's giv'n to such as these."
What Jesus says, we can believe,
and come to Him like children to receive.

(instrumental refrain)

So when, Lord,
I am that child, stuck at a chair,
send your voice, give strength to dare.
And send reminders when I hurt,
to think of asking your help first.
Then, when my years are all in place,
let me recognize your face;
run to you, straight-on, as child of grace;
rest within your arms....

In Mark 10 and other places, Jesus welcomes little children, and suggests to the disciples that the Kingdom of God belongs to those who receive it like a little child. This song is about childlikeness and faith.
